Healthcare in Edo State remains one of the most pressing challenges affecting the wellbeing of citizens. While the state has a network of hospitals and primary healthcare centres, many are underfunded, poorly equipped, and inaccessible to rural communities. Maternal and child mortality rates remain high, preventable diseases continue to claim lives, and the exodus of medical professionals has left hospitals struggling with limited staff. For too many families, accessing quality care means travelling long distances or paying high costs at private facilities, placing healthcare beyond the reach of the poor. These realities weaken not only public health but also economic growth, productivity, and social stability.
Step by Step Toward a Better Future
GAF’s roadmap is practical and people-centred.
First, we will rehabilitate and equip health facilities, ensuring that every local government has a functional centre.
Second, we will support and retain medical professionals by enhancing incentives, providing training opportunities, and improving working conditions.
Third, we will expand access through health insurance schemes and targeted subsidies, making care affordable for low-income households.
Fourth, we will invest in a community-based initiatives roadmap that is designed to be both effective and centred on the needs of the community. Finally, we will leverage technology and strategic partnerships, harnessing telemedicine and collaborating with diaspora experts to ensure that specialised care is within reach for everyone.
